I wasn't trying to be all Sound of Musick-y. I was trying to sketch a respite from noise and a meadow seemed like a good place to find such a thing. If, however, you know anything at all about meadows and country-side, you know the only way you get quiet is by waiting til night slams itself firmly into place.
Or putting a pillow over your head.
I could've sketched a pillow.

All weekend long, it was gray and raining, so we curled up on the couch and watched many mediocre movies. We weren't aiming at mediocre; they just turned out that way. Normally, we'd turn them off, but we were too busy whimpering about the winter (and sort of cackling, too, because for some strange reason, it's big fun to suffer once in awhile. I do not want to know why this is true, but it is. )
Whimper, whimper, whimper. Eat, eat, eat. Load another movie. That was our recipe, in case you'd like to try it at home.
Convincing oneself that it was winter required forgetting that we'd gone to the farmers' market in the morning. I'd bundled up in a cashmere sweater and flip-flops. Even I know this is not a uniform that signals winter. The only way to shake the memory was to 1. completely ignore it and 2. whimper louder. Both of which I did.
It was very successful. I still think we're having winter while friends in the midwest are posting notes about sweltering.

Yay. We get to have hot dogs and macaroni and cheese for dinner. A. rarely agrees to eat like that, but ... winter weather, you know. There are only so many days you can be bothered to grill artichokes and concoct another aioli variation.

June-uary is one of my favorite times of year.
Mimi'sDad: Oh, I WISH I'd thought of that. It's an annual adventure on the central coast, this June gloom, and that would come in MIGHTY handy. So handy, I might just swipe it anyway. :)

p.s. I LOVE THE VIDEO! (Ugh. Yes, it's true.)
Comfort food, bad movies (myself I opt for I Love Lucy or Gilligan's Island), comfort clothes no phone. . .but enough about me let's talk about you and "The Little Gems." I think this would be really fun, but then I loved Merry and the Key, JoJo Booda and This by Cris. Oh and I almost forgot Me the Recipe.
Me-the frick-ow.
We went from 100 degrees yesterday to 60 degrees and rain today. I love Iowa...Or maybe I don't at all sometimes.
Linda: As recipes go, I have no doubt AT ALL you could cook up the exact same thing. :) Of course, YOU have an excuse. It's phenomenal you don't whine -er, whimper. We get lots of reports from the Bay from people who, well, don't hold back. Ha! (And those hot dogs, etc. were a TERRIBLE good dinner. :))
RE: your PS. Thank you!! And really? It's one of those things I wanted to do, regardless its reception which means a leeeetle bit of me was perfectly prepared for something else. But I don't care. :) (Except I'm very happy you like it some.)
Anonymoose: Oh, yeah. Comfort clothes. Those are critical ingredients.
You are a good good moose to tend to JoJo Booda's memory. I'd forgotten that I'd given her a whole website!! Thing is, Little Gems clearly borrows from so many thingies I've worked on. I'm lazy that way. But this time around, I already have tons of half assed stories. Staying power. That's important. :)
Also, Merry's not dead. She's just been re-named and is being re-some other word I can't think of.
Churlita: Ow. THAT's what I hated about midwest Spring/nearly Summers. You couldn't count on the temperature at ALLLLL. It's been hard to fathom/imagine/appreciate the heat you're all wobbling around in. (Po' kitties.) I think my body refuses to forget our winter visit. Hmph and all that.
She can hardly help her talent.....
I was informed while in California last week about June Gloom. Never knew. I thought California was the land of eternal sunshine.
We only just got out of that weather pattern out here. It was equally miserable and disheartening, especially since we have feet of snow to look forward to starting in another 5 months.
